Questions and Answers
1)  Q What are the open circulation hours of the media center?
Open Circulation hours are available for grades 2-5:

All days:
8:20am - 8:50am
9:15am - 12:50pm
2:45pm - 3:30pm
2)  Q What are the circulation policies of the media center?
Students in grades K-5 are allowed to check out one book at a time. Students in Battle of the Books may check out two books at a time (one must be a Battle of the Books book). If a student has lost or damaged a book, they cannot check out another book until they have replaced the book. If a student has moved to West Clayton from another school in Johnston County, and they owe a book or fine to the media center at their last school, they will not be allowed to check out a book until that book has been returned or the fine paid. Students may return undamaged books to the West Clayton Media Center to be sent to their former school. All money owed to the former school must be paid to the media coordinator at that school.
3)  Q What are the rules of the media center?
Students are expected to follow all school rules as well as:

1. Listen and follow directions. (This is especially important during the instructional part of media time.)

2. Respect the books.

3. Respect for yourself and others.

4. Be prepared and ready to participate.
4)  Q What types of lessons are taught in the media center?
Students in grades K-2 will have lessons on a variety of topics. They will often have a story and discussion related to the theme. First and second graders will learn basic research skills using the "Super 3 Research Method". Sometimes students will work on activities related to the media center and the theme.

Students in grades 3-5 will have lessons involving the information skills curriculum. These lessons will include media center skills, the Dewey Decimal System, research skills, and copyright/avoiding plagiarism. Students will create research products related to the science curriculum using the "Big 6 Research Method". Often teachers will use these projects as a science grade.
5)  Q When is the book fair?
See the book fair information link for updates about the book fair.
6)  Q Can I help in the media center this year?
Parents are encouraged to fill out Johnston County Schools volunteer application forms. If you are interested in volunteering or helping with the book fair, I would be happy to have your assistance!
